Fact Sheet
Too Close for Comfort
This artist's concept shows Corot-7b, a rocky planet discovered by a French satellite, orbiting just 1.6 million miles (2.6 million km) from its parent star, Corot-7. In a few tens of millions of years, the star will pull the planet apart, creating a ring of rocky debris. The planet was discovered as it crossed in front of the star, briefly dimming the star's light by a tiny amount. [ESO/L.Calcada]
