Fact Sheet
Resuming the Race
The race for the Moon got back on track on October 11, 1968, with the launch of Apollo 7, the first manned flight of America's Moonship. Astronauts Wally Schirra, Donn Eisele, and Walter Cunningham orbited Earth for more than 10 days, setting the stage for a trip to lunar orbit just two months later. [Credit: NASA]
