Vinegar in Space
An enhanced radio-wave image reveals various chemical elements in a cloud of cold gas and dust where new stars are born near the heart of the Milky Way galaxy. White lines at the upper right of the cloud, which spans dozens of light-years, show where astronomers discovered the chemical “signature” of acetic acid -- a.k.a. vinegar -- one of the components of the simplest amino acid.
