Fact Sheet
Snap, Crackle, Glow
Bright granules of hot gas that look like Rice Krispies, and dark magnetic sunspots highlight this false-color image of the Sun released earlier this month. The sunspots show three-dimensional structure that indicates they are about 125-280 miles deep (200-450 km). The smallest details in this image are about 40 miles (70 km) in diameter.
