Fact Sheet
Colorful Volcanoes
Two active and colorful volcanoes dominate this mosiac of images of Io, one of the largest moons of Jupiter, from the Galileo spacecraft. The volcano at top is Culann Patera, with Tohil Mons below it. The red and yellow colors are particles of sulfur, while the green is produced by sulfur on top of darker rocks. The image area is outlined on the full disk of Io at top right. NASA released this image last week.
