Fact Sheet
Leapin' Lizards!
Many of the pictographs at Paint Rock -- and at many other ancient rock-art sites throughout the southwest -- depict animals common to the region, from deer to snakes. One local creature that may show up at Paint Rock is the great texas horned lizard -- better known as the horny toad. Once common, this spiny little creature is a rare sight in most of Texas today (although this one was crawling among the Paint Rock pictographs).
