Fact Sheet
Galactic Trainwreck
The spiral galaxies known as the "Antennae" are staging a spectacular encounter. The galaxies have sideswiped each other, pulling out great streamers of stars and triggering intense bouts of starbirth. The nurseries for the new stars glow bright red in this image. The centers of the two galaxies eventually will spiral together, too, forming a giant galaxy. [NASA/ESA/Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA)]
