Fact Sheet
An Ancient Scar
The International Space Station passes over an ancient impact crater in this image recently transmitted to Earth by Expedition Seven crewmembers Yuri Malenchenko and Ed Lu. The crater is the large circular feature at lower right. The circle is filled with water, and forms the Manicouagan Reservoir in Quebec. The crater, which spans about 40 miles, formed when a large asteroid slammed into Earth about 200 million years ago. The Expedition Seven crew is scheduled to remain aboard the station until late October. [Credit: NASA]
